Are you a college student or recent graduate who is interested in working directly with low-income, first-generation, youth from underserved high schools? EAOP is hiring Teaching Assistants for our summer program, Pre-College Academy 2022!

Program Overview

Pre-College Academy (PCA) is a six-week college-preparatory summer program hosted by the Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) at the University of California, Berkeley. EAOP partners with schools, districts, community organizations, and families to empower underserved students and prepare them for college and career success. For 35 years, PCA has provided intensive academic enrichment for EAOP students from partner high schools throughout the Bay Area. PCA prepares students for academic success in the following school year, including excellence in classes that meet the University of California’s A-G subject requirements and enrollment in Honors and Advanced Placement courses.

Course Information

PCA offers students rigorous coursework, college-style expectations and an environment of challenging academic camaraderie. Students commit to two academic classes, including a Writing course, and a second course in Math (Geometry, Algebra II, Pre- Calculus). Writing courses are theme-based, drawing on a range of academic disciplines. Examples of courses taught in the past include: Free Me Fast: The {potentially} Liberating Linguistics of Rap, In Search Of The Self Through a Critically Analytical Lens, Decolonizing the Classroom: Radical Healing and Empowering Education, Language, Culture, and Power: Mixtape of an Activist. Additionally, students attend weekly activity sessions that may include team building, leadership activities, and college advising. All classes are offered on the UC Berkeley campus.
