EAOP Student, Pittsburg High School
TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF
I was born in India and immigrated to America when I was 12. In India I was involved in school sports and annual dances. I also went to a Catholic School where they focused more on teaching us English and not my own language. Henceforth, I did not have any difficulty communicating in America. Currently I am a junior and I am involved in a lot of different programs like Leadership and Link Crew. I also won a competition in Engineering. I have been in EAOP since my freshman year. In the future I am looking to get involved in lot more activities so I can make it to a good university with scholarships.
WHAT DOES GOING TO COLLEGE MEAN TO YOU?
To me college is from where a person's actual life starts. One goes outside of their town or city to observe and learn new things. A person becomes independent and starts to be acquainted with their responsibilities. As a junior I am trying to be involved in as many extracurricular activities I can.
MY GOALS AND DREAMS
I am not sure of my career goals yet. However, I know I want to be an engineer, but am not sure about what type of engineer I want to be. That was one reason I took Engineering in PCA and currently I am taking Robotics and AP physics. Moreover, I really want to attend UCLA as my four-year college. I'm really searching for something big in my life.
HOW HAS EAOP HELPED PREPARE YOU FOR COLLEGE AND CAREER SUCCESS?
EAOP helped me become more independent. PCA was a type of experience that I never had before. It helped me look at the life of college students and how they are managing their life. Furthermore, the programs I learned in Engineering in PCA are really helping me in my classes because of the software we used. To add to that, EAOP is really supporting me with my college statements and applications.
