A LITTLE ABOUT ME
My name is Julie Nguyen. I identify as a Southeast Asian Vietnamese-American womyn. I am a recent graduate of UC Berkeley with a B.S. in Molecular Environmental Biology with a minor in Education. I am originally from Elk Grove, California and I have lived in the Sacramento Country since birth.
WHY I AM COMMITTED TO THIS WORK
My mom is my main motivator and one of the most important people in my life. Her care, love, and sacrifice ignites my passion in education and in my work. She escaped the aftermath of the Southeast Asian Wars and came to America in the 1990’s. Her struggles and the experiences of my childhood led me to become involved in the Southeast Asian community in college. I became a new person as I started working with my peers and with youth through various programs. Through this work, I connected to the East Bay Consortium and now I have the opportunity to continue working with youth through EAOP and DCAC.
I enjoy making and eating a wide variety of food. I love boba and went to the boba capital of the world this past summer, Taiwan. I have a passion for traveling, reading, crafts, sleeping and much more.
WORDS THAT GUIDE ME
I wade through life everyday for my mom.
