Major: Social Welfare – UC Berkeley, Class of 2017
A LITTLE ABOUT ME
I am a proud Chicana who is passionate in making a difference in her community. I immigrated from Mexico when I was 10 years old and settled in Antioch CA. Currently a 3rd year student in UC Berkeley, I hope to eventually get a M.A. in Counseling or School Psychology to support students in their educational journey.
WHY I AM COMMITTED TO THIS WORK
The Early Academic Outreach Program made my dream of attending UC Berkeley a reality. As a first generation undocumented student, college seemed like an impossible dream, it was not until I became enrolled in the Pre-College Academy (an excellent EAOP program) that college started to look like an achievable goal. Motivated by my Pre-College Academy teacher assistant I utilized every EAOP program available to get me ready for college. As I read "Congratulations" on my acceptance letter I was extremely thankful for all the support EAOP provided me.Thus, I am passionate in working for this organization because I experienced first hand the positive impact it has in students' lives.
My guilty pleasure are reality shows (Love & Hip Hop, Teenage Mom, etc.). Although I am not very good, I enjoy dancing salsa and bachata. So if anyone needs a dance partner let me know :)
WORDS THAT GUIDE ME
"I wanna say I lived each day, until I die And know that I meant something in somebody's life The hearts I have touched will be the proof that I leave That I made a difference, and this world will see I was here" -Beyonce Knowles
